Biography

Michelle R.E. Donovan has over 25 years’ experience working at large international law firms representing businesses and individuals in litigation and transactional matters across a wide range of areas, including commercial disputes, real estate, cannabis, and probate. She has successfully litigated trials with positive results, represented clients in arbitration, and handled proceedings before state agencies including litigated cases of first impression in Michigan and Texas.

Michelle serves as a Faculty Member for the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and past Chair of the Cannabis Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. She was appointed Macomb County Public Administrator for the Macomb County Probate Court by the Michigan Attorney General in 2017.

She has published articles in the Michigan Bar Journal, moderated panels at state bar conferences, industry organizations, and television and is a frequent speaker on real estate and cannabis law. She is often sought out by the media for her expertise in cannabis. She taught as an adjunct professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School for over 14 years, teaching Mortgages and Land Contracts and Modern Real Estate Transactions. She is also Chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of New Baltimore.

She was recognized by Crain's Detroit Business as one of its Notable Women in Law and most recently Best Lawyer.

Michelle is licensed in Michigan and Texas.
